Surgeon Bio
Mr Wei Leong is a consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in sports injuries, hip and knee surgeries. With years of expertise, he currently holds a senior clinical lecturer position at the University of Liverpool. Mr Leong's qualifications include a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2018, a Masters of Trauma and Orthopaedic from the University of Warwick in 2013, a Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2009, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Manchester in 2006. His specializations lie in joint preservation surgery, unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement, total hip and total knee replacements, and performing hip replacements through a muscle-sparing approach. He also offers robotic-assisted knee replacement surgeries and has research interests in infection prevention in joint replacement surgeries. Training under the reputable Mersey Deanery, Mr Wei Leong underwent prestigious fellowships at Northumbria and Wrightington, as well as multiple visiting fellowships, enhancing his expertise in performing complex primary joint replacements and revision surgeries for failing joint replacements. Notably, he is the lead author of the Revision Hip Complexity Classification (RHCC) publication alongside Experts from the British Hip Society. His publications cover a range of topics such as infection prevention, enhanced knee rehabilitation, and investigating data accuracy and mechanisms during primary total hip arthroplasty. Moreover, Mr Leong offers video and telephone consultations in his areas of interest, which include osteoarthritis, Avascular Necrosis, ACL injuries, and meniscal injuries among others. Beyond his medical practice, Mr Wei Leong is passionate about promoting exercise for building resilience and maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health. He actively participates in various sports activities such as tennis, cycling, swimming, and running, and has even competed in multiple triathlons. Additionally, he is a qualified PADI Open Water Scuba diver, showcasing his diverse interests outside of the medical field.
