Mr Peter Briggs is an esteemed consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. With over 30 years of expertise, he is renowned internationally for his work in rheumatoid arthritis of the foot and his proficiency in addressing foot and ankle issues related to conditions such as diabetes, haemophilia, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. Mr Briggs has a strong research background, with numerous publications and research prizes, and he was awarded the prestigious Austrian-Swiss-German Fellowship in 2004. He has held various leadership positions in orthopaedic associations and has contributed significantly to the field. Having received his medical education from the University of Manchester, Mr Briggs has undergone extensive training in orthopaedic surgery in the UK, the USA, and Germany. He has developed pioneering surgical techniques, such as introducing modern ankle joint replacements to Newcastle, and is actively involved in research on the structure and function of the foot. Specialising in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, with sub-specialisation in foot and ankle, his areas of interest include ankle surgery, foot surgery, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, lower limb neurological disorders, and haemophilia. He also conducts courses for General Practitioners on foot and ankle management. Beyond his medical practice, Mr Briggs enjoys music and playing the piano, English literature, drawing and painting, photography, fell walking, and travelling. He is dedicated to advancing the field of orthopaedic surgery through his research on the structure and function of the foot and ankle, metatarsophalangeal plantar plate reconstruction, and outcome studies post-surgery for various conditions.
