Mr Nigel Gummerson, a highly experienced consultant, has specialized in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, with a focus on spinal surgery. He studied medicine at Trinity College, Oxford, and then joined the Leeds surgical rotation. He gained further experience in orthopaedic surgery during the Yorkshire Orthopaedic rotation and completed his spinal training with a fellowship in Sheffield. Additionally, he underwent a period of training in the USA. In 2009, Mr Gummerson returned to Leeds as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon. He holds various memberships, including the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Orthopaedic Association. Mr Nigel Gummerson has extensive qualifications, including a BA (Hons) from Oxford University in 1994, BM BCh from Oxford University in 1997, MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000, and FRCS (Tr & Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007. He is registered as a Specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with the General Medical Council. Specializing in surgery for degenerative conditions of the thoracic and lumbar spine, Mr Gummerson's areas of interest include microdiscectomy, lumbar decompression for spinal stenosis, lumbar fusion with decompression for spondylolisthesis, spinal trauma, adult spinal deformity surgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery, interbody fusion surgery, coccydynia, sacrococcygeal injections, and coccygectomy. In his NHS role, Mr Gummerson serves as a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon and Clinical Lead for Spinal Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Leeds General Infirmary. He also consults at Spire Longlands Consulting Rooms and Spire Elland Hospital.
