Jonathan Bird

Mr Jonathan Bird is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon with extensive knowledge in the field of knee injuries. Graduating from University College London School of Medicine in 1997, he embarked on a career in the British Army, where he witnessed top-notch medical care for service men and women. This experience ignited his passion for orthopaedic surgery, with a particular focus on treating knee injuries. Jonathan rose to the rank of major during his army tenure, undertaking various roles including active service in Iraq. Since leaving the army in 2004, he has pursued specialist orthopaedic training and currently serves as an NHS Consultant at University Hospital Lewisham. His expertise lies in soft tissue injuries, with a specialisation in knee surgeries such as ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair. Furthermore, Jonathan is highly involved in academia, serving as the Undergraduate Lead for medical students from King�s College London and participating in the training of orthopaedic registrars at King�s and Guy�s and Hospitals. He remains dedicated to his own education, regularly attending international conferences to stay abreast of the latest advancements in knee surgery. Jonathan prioritises patient care, whether it's aiding an elite athlete's return to competitive sports or alleviating arthritis pain in daily individuals. He founded the Acute Knee Service at Lewisham Hospital to streamline knee injury treatments, showing his commitment to excellence in patient care. In addition to his medical pursuits, Jonathan has a keen interest in middle and distance running and is a renowned figure in the field of knee surgery. His research focuses on various aspects of knee surgery, particularly sports injuries and treatments for young arthritic patients. With a wealth of experience and a dedication to continuous learning, Mr Jonathan Bird is a respected figure in the orthopaedic community, providing top-tier care to his patients in London and beyond.
