James Smith is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialisation in knee and hip surgery. With expertise in knee and hip replacement, ligament reconstruction, and keyhole surgery, he also has a particular interest in sports and traumatic injuries. As a Founder Member of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, Mr Smith understands the impact orthopaedic conditions have on patients' overall wellbeing. Currently, he holds a position as a Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, UK. Mr Smith's qualifications include a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours (BSc) and a Bachelor of Medicine (BM) from the University of Southampton. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons, England (FRCS Tr&Orth), and has a Doctor of Medicine (DM) from the University of Southampton. Additionally, he has completed specialized training through the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) Knee Fellowship and a Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Trauma Fellowship. He is a member of various esteemed medical societies, such as the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Medical Association. With a focus on hip and knee surgeries, Mr Smith's areas of expertise encompass total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, total hip replacement, knee keyhole surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, and various other cartilage and soft tissue procedures. He is registered as a specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery by the General Medical Council (GMC) and actively engages in medical research. Mr Smith has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals, and frequently delivers presentations at Orthopaedic conferences and events. Outside of his professional work, Mr Smith enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife in Dorset. They often indulge in outdoor activities in the countryside, such as cycling on their tandem and participating in local Parkruns.
