Surgeon Bio
Mr. Iain McNamara is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon with a focus on improving patient outcomes through research and surgical techniques. He is currently the Lead of the Orthopaedic Research Unit and an Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia. Mr. McNamara obtained his undergraduate training at the University of Cambridge, followed by a medical degree from the University of Oxford. He completed his higher surgical training in the East Anglian rotation and holds a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Cambridge, where he received recognition and awards for his research on bone reconstruction after joint replacement. In addition to his academic achievements, Mr. McNamara has gained extensive practical experience through fellowships under international experts. He has undergone specialized training in sports surgery, including arthroscopic surgery and ligament reconstruction, as well as early arthritis intervention. He has also completed fellowships in complex knee revision arthroplasty and trauma surgery. Mr. McNamara is an active member of the medical community, holding positions at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital as a full-time NHS Consultant and as an Honorary Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of East Anglia. Mr. McNamara's expertise lies in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, with a particular focus on knee surgery. He is skilled in managing early arthritis, cartilage tears, knee replacements (both primary and complex), arthroscopic surgery, and patella stabilisation surgery. He offers video and telephone consultations in addition to in-person appointments. Mr. McNamara is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, and the British Association for Surgery of the Knee. Outside of work, Mr. McNamara enjoys cycling, playing golf (even if his skills are diminishing), and contributing to the music scene in Norwich. He is passionate about research, particularly in the areas of joint replacement outcomes, rehabilitation techniques, infection diagnosis, and trialling of novel knee replacements.
