Edward Powell-Smith

Mr Edward Powell-Smith is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. With years of expertise in orthopaedic surgery, he specialises in hand and wrist surgery, focusing on complex hand trauma, soft tissue injuries, and arthritic conditions of the hand and finger joint replacements. Mr Powell-Smith is actively involved in medical education and holds positions on the education and training committee of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the standards in Hand Surgery committee. Having qualified from University College London Medical School in 2000 and completing his higher orthopaedic surgical training in Wessex, Mr Powell-Smith further honed his skills through fellowships in orthopaedic and plastic hand and wrist surgery. His particular interests lie in the management of hand trauma, painful arthritis of the finger joints, and various nerve problems in the hand and arm. He has numerous publications in esteemed journals and is a member of the British Medical Association and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, showcasing his dedication to the field. Apart from his clinical practice, Mr Powell-Smith has a passion for teaching and research, with a focus on hand and wrist trauma. He holds qualifications including FRCS (Tr-Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons and a PGCE in Medical Education from the University of Winchester. With a GMC Specialist Registration in Orthopaedics and Trauma since 2011, he continues to contribute to the advancement of hand and wrist surgery, providing high-quality care to his patients at Harrogate District Hospital and The Duchy Hospital.
