Duncan Learmonth is an experienced Orthopaedic Knee and Shoulder Consultant Surgeon. He was appointed at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in 1993 and later established the Birmingham Knee and Shoulder Clinic at the Priory Hospital. Although he transferred to full-time private practice in 2007, he still maintains an Honorary NHS Contract at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and holds the position of Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. Duncan is considered an authority in Knee and Shoulder Surgery in the UK and frequently teaches at Regional Orthopaedic Training Programs and demonstrates in Arthroscopic Surgery Workshops. His areas of expertise include degenerative knee disorders, cartilage repair, shoulder pain, anterior knee pain, frozen shoulder, knee arthroscopy, shoulder surgery, and shoulder decompression, among others. He has published numerous papers on knee and shoulder conditions and has contributed book chapters on knee trauma and articular cartilage disease. Duncan's goal in establishing the Birmingham Knee and Shoulder Clinic was to help patients and referring practitioners identify surgeons with subspecialty expertise. Duncan offers video and telephone consultations in addition to his in-person services. His specialties include trauma and orthopaedic surgery, with sub-specialties in knee, shoulder, and elbow surgeries. He is well-known for his skill in procedures such as rotator cuff repair, ligament reconstruction (including anterior cruciate ligament), knee arthroscopy, and knee replacement surgery. Duncan is also interested in non-union fractures, shoulder stabilisation, shoulder resurfacing, tennis elbow, and elbow surgeries. In his free time, Duncan enjoys being a guest speaker at Orthopaedic Association Meetings in various countries, including Norway, Greece, and Egypt. He is dedicated to continuously improving and sharing his knowledge and expertise in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery.
